Communication: One of the most important skills that can be learnt young is effective communication. Presentations are a great way to have children practice all language system areas (vocabulary, grammar, discourse and phonology ) and skills ( speaking, reading, writing and listening). Presentation skills are extremely useful both in and outside the classroom.
At the end of each unit of our course book, there’s an opportunity for a project so I opted for the presentations because I felt this would most benefit the children in more ways than one. As of date, the children have presented a leaflet for an event, a fact file of their choice, a strange building, a famous landmark, or a dream home, a food recipe and a place that they visited in the past.
The children tackled the tasks with a lot of enthusiasm and a great deal of effort. They worked on their presentations both in class and at home, individually and in pairs. After completing each project, the children were eager to share their work with others as well as listen to each other and ask questions.
The amount of effort the children have put into their presentations, demonstrates their ability to be responsible, manage their time effectively and shows that they have carefully thought about their work. It reveals that they have achieved a lot of satisfaction from the way they present their work and are proud of and value the learning and progress that they are making within lessons.
What a confident Booster! Having stood before their classmates several times to present their work, their confidence increased multi-fold times.
I noticed a significant improvement in their presentation skills straight after the first presentation. Their confidence, delivery, and ability to engage others have improved tremendously.
Way to Go!
