Who would not agree that a good book in hand never fails to bring one to a world full of imagination? It brings us to a place where it nourishes and expands our mind, brings us in a whole new different world. Reading, inarguably, sparks creativity and curiosity, and it goes hand in hand with storytelling which helps build language and literacy development. The power of two, reading and storytelling, have been long proven to create many educational and psychological benefits to children and adults alike.
The concept of “Biscuits and Books” is one of the beloved activities that students can look forward to in Literacy class. Creating a safe space for children where they can enjoy, sit back and freely express their ideas and thoughts, is a great way to boost their love for reading and their confidence to storytelling. Moreover, this is a fantastic opportunity for them to construct, interpret and share stories of the book they have chosen to their friends. Whilst, the “Biscuit” part of this activity has added a delightful and a more fun element, wherein each can narrate their “story ” while being cozy having their tea and biscuits to enjoy with their friends. Oh, what a delight!
Books, friends, biscuits and a cup of tea are indeed a perfect combination and are definitely great companions.
