As you may know “Jolly Phonics” is one of the most important tools for our preschoolers to learn English.
The 42 letter sounds are represented by the 26 letters of the alphabet and by the digraphs.
The letter sounds are split into seven groups and are thought in a specific order but not alphabetically which enables children to begin building words as early as possible.
By using a synthetic phonics approach, Jolly Phonics teaches children the five key skills for reading and writing. Learning the letter sounds, learning letter formations, blending, segmenting and the tricky words. Through this fun and easy way students get motivated and it ensures them how to read, write and speak English.
This year our youngest students, the “ blue bunnies”, started up experiencing this funny and multi- sensory method by hearing, seeing and doing for each new letter they learn. During our weekly lesson we welcome the “magical box” in our classroom that always contains a new letter-sound. We write the letters in the air, practice it by tracing on a black board and in yellow flour, or we form it with playdough. With every new sound there is also a new song to learn that we repeat as often as we can all together.
It is a great joy observing how children in they’re sweetest years start to develop language skills and grow up with bilingual abilities given through the Jolly Phonics method.
It is really true: to learn a language is to have one more window from which to look at the world.
