World kindness Day focuses every year on a different theme, this years theme comes from a very famous quote by the Dalai Lama, “Be kind whenever possible.”  The purpose of World Kindness Day is to generate positivity through good deeds in the community and to create a kinder and more compassionate world. Since it’s creation more than two decades ago, the day has received global recognition and events such as concerts, dance mobs and notably the “random acts of kindness” movement.

Kindness is a powerful tool for our children and as adults and role models we should nurture kindness for the physical, mental and emotional well being of our children. Teaching children to be kind to everyone, even if they are different, turns them into brave and kind adults. Encouraging kindnesses creates a positive learning environment, encourages creativity and increases children’s self esteem. Kind communities ensure that all children have a sense of belonging and improved friendships.

Being kind can benefit us in many ways, people who are constantly kind produce 23% less cortisol (a stress hormone), research has found that when people see someone else being kind they are more likely to act kind towards others. Emotional warmth releases the hormone oxytocin, which dilates the blood vessels and therefore lowers blood pressure.

Being kind is not only good for others but also it’s good for you!
